Tree Plantings in Applewood Heights Park – Fall 2020
As part of the Trees for Omaha program and in conjunction with the City of Omaha’s Parks & Recreation Department, Keep Omaha Beautiful will plant roughly 10 native and underrepresented trees in Applewood Heights Park this fall. Attached you can find a general planting plan for the park for your reference.
This specific planting is part of an overall spring planting project involving 9 total parks located in southwest Omaha. The ultimate goal of the Trees for Omaha program is to add underrepresented/native shade trees to area parks in order to counteract the loss of ash trees due to the invasive Emerald Ash Borer beetle.
The trees will be roughly 5 to 6 feet high when they are planted (optimal height for long-term growth/success). There should be no disruption to the park or the neighborhood as a result of this planting endeavor. A contractor will also maintain and water the trees during the critical first year following the planting. After that, the City’s Parks & Recreation Department will be responsible for the trees. The current plan is that these trees will be planted in mid to late October of this year.
